Funding wallets
Verto wallets can be funded via multiple methods depending on your currency, market, and account setup. A single wallet can have multiple sets of account details active simultaneously — for example, a wallet can hold local virtual account details, SWIFT details, and a pooled account reference all at the same time. Availability of each funding method depends on your account type and compliance approval.
Different funding details are avaible based on integration method - Direct Corporate, Atlas for Platform or Atlas for Fintech. Check with Sales/Account Manager for more information or email [email protected]
Generating account details
To generate funding account details for a wallet, call the Get Funding Methods endpoint with autoCreate=true. This applies to local, SWIFT, and stablecoin account details.
If unique details are not avaible, and error will be returned and pooled funding details should be used instead.
GET /{companyId}/wallets/{walletId}/fundingMethods?autoCreate=true
autoCreatemust be set totrueto generate new account details. Without it the endpoint will only return existing details already associated with the wallet.
Local virtual accounts
Local virtual accounts provide unique account details on local payment rails for your wallet. Any funds sent to these details are automatically credited to the linked wallet — no payment reference is required.
Local account details and supported funding methods vary by market. See the Verto local account guides for market-specific details including supported banks, rails, and funding instructions.
SWIFT virtual accounts
SWIFT virtual accounts provide unique international account details for receiving funds via SWIFT transfer. As with local virtual accounts, funds are automatically credited to the linked wallet with no payment reference required.
Not all countries can send funds to Verto SWIFT accounts. See what countries can I receive payments from? for the full list of supported sender countries.
Pooled accounts
Pooled accounts are shared accounts owned and operated by Verto, used in markets where unique virtual accounts are not available, or because the clients industry is not supported.
Because the account is shared across multiple clients, Verto uses the SmartWallet ID to reconcile incoming payments to the correct wallet.
The SmartWallet ID is returned in the Get Funding Methods API response and must be included by the sender in the payment reference on every inbound transfer. If the SmartWallet ID is missing from the payment reference, Verto will be unable to automatically allocate the funds. Unclaimed funds will be returned to the sender after a period of time.
If you believe funds have arrived but not been credited, contact [email protected] — Verto's support team can assist with manual claims for unallocated payments.
Pooled accounts are available on both local and SWIFT rails depending on the market.
Mobile money
For clients with local KES account details, wallets can also be funded via M-Pesa in Kenya. Senders use your local account details to initiate a mobile money transfer — no separate account details are generated for mobile money.
See the Verto local account guides for M-Pesa funding instructions.
Support for additional mobile money providers and markets is planned for future releases.
Stablecoins (USDC/T) - Coming Soon
Verto supports inbound USDC and USDT deposits for eligible clients. Stablecoin funding works similarly to a unique virtual account — a dedicated wallet address is generated for your wallet rather than bank account details. Deposits are automatically converted to USD on receipt and credited to your USD wallet.
Stablecoin funding is not available to all clients and is currently rolling out. Availability depends on your account's risk profile and compliance approval. Contact your account manager or [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) to discuss access.
Funding between wallets
Wallets can also be funded by transferring from another wallet within Verto:
- Within the same account — wallet-to-wallet transfers settle instantly, whether in the same currency or via FX conversion
- Between Verto accounts — payments to another Verto customer settle in real time, typically within 5–10 seconds, 24/7
See the Wallets guide for full details on wallet-to-wallet transfers and the FX guide for converting between currencies.
Funding rules — first vs third party & individual vs corporate
Verto applies inbound funding rules to all accounts — both parent accounts and sub-accounts — based on an automated compliance risk review at onboarding. These rules determine who is permitted to send funds into your wallet.
Third party vs first party
By default, most accounts are approved to receive funds from third parties (i.e. other businesses sending to your wallet). Clients in higher-risk industries — financial institutions, for example — are typically restricted to first party funding only, meaning only the account holder can fund their own wallet.
Individual vs corporate senders
By default, accounts are approved to receive funds from corporate senders. Receiving from individual senders is supported for industries where this is a natural use case — travel and tourism operators, for example. For industries where individual inbound payments are not expected — such as consultancy — this is blocked by default.
These rules are set automatically based on your risk profile and cannot be self-configured. If you believe your funding rules need to be adjusted for your use case, contact [email protected].
Inbound payment webhooks
Verto sends webhook notifications as inbound payments progress through processing. Subscribe to webhooks to receive real-time updates rather than polling.
| Status | Description |
|---|---|
requested | Funds have arrived and are under compliance review. Not yet credited to the wallet. |
completed | Funds have cleared compliance review and been credited to the wallet. |
archived | Payment was rejected. Funds are being returned to the sender. |
See the Webhooks guide for setup instructions and full event details.
Fees
Inbound payments may be subject to a fixed fee, a percentage fee, or both, depending on your commercial setup and funding method. Fees are billed either at the point of deposit or at the end of the month depending on your billing model.
Contact your account manager or [email protected] to confirm the fee structure applicable to your account.
